Clearing your browser history doesn't actually delete your browser history.
Google keeps a copy linked to your account on a page most people never visit.
Here’s how to delete everything:
1/ First, clear your browser
This is a well-known method. It clears only the data stored on your device.
Chrome → three dots in the top right corner → Clear browsing data → set the time range to "All time" → check all three boxes → Clear data.
Your device is now clean—not a Google copy.
2/ Delete the copy saved by Google
This is the most important step. Activities you’ve searched for, viewed, or performed may be saved to your Google account.
Gmail app → profile picture in the top right corner → Manage your Google Account → Data & privacy → History settings → My Activity.
Then: Delete → All time → Confirm.
Before doing so, you can scroll down to see exactly what has been saved.
3/ Stop further recording
If data collection remains enabled, new activity may start being recorded again.
Data & Privacy → Return to the history settings section.
Turn off the following items: Web & App Activity, YouTube History, and Location History.
4/ Set up auto-delete for the data you keep
If you want to keep one of these settings enabled, at least limit how long the data is stored.
In each history setting, go to Auto-delete and select the 3-month option.
Google also offers 18-month and 36-month options. 3 months is the shortest option available.
5/ Check your profile's ad settings
Your history may also be used to personalize ads.
Data and privacy → Go to the "Ad Center" section.
Turn off the "Personalized ads" option. Then, check the ad settings for partner ads as well.
6/ Check other apps linked to your account
Old apps you signed into using Google may still be linked to your account.
Data & privacy → Go to the "Third-party apps and services" section.
Select an app you don't recognize or no longer use, and remove the link to your Google account.
