Google raised it to $15.99/month in April. That's $192 a year to watch videos without interruptions on your TV.
SmartTube does it free, and 30,000 developers have starred the repo.
It's a complete YouTube replacement for Android TV, Fire TV, NVIDIA Shield, and Chromecast with Google TV:
